Answer:

x = 3 + 2√2

1/x = 1/(3+2√2) x (3-2√2)/(3-2√2)

rationalise the denominator

1/x = 3 - 2√2

ATQ

x + 1/x = 3 + 2√2 + 3 - 2√2

x + 1/x = 9

and

x² + 1/x² = (x+1/x)² - 2x.1/x

x² + 1/x² = (9)² - 2

x² + 1/x² = 81 - 2

x² + 1/x² = 79
