rows be x and the students in each row y
(y+3) (x-1) = xy
xy + 3x - y = xy
3x - y = 3-6........ (1)
(y-3) (x+2) = xy
xy - 3x + 2y = 6..... (2)
3x - y = 3
-3x + 2y = 6
subtracting
y = 9
3x - 9 = 3
3x = 12
x = 12/3 = 4
no. of students = xy
= 9 x 4
ans 16.. Let the number of cows be x and the number of hens be y.
Then, 4x + 2y = 2 (x + y) + 14 ⇔ 4x + 2y = 2x + 2y + 14 ⇔ 2x = 14 ⇔ x = 7.
