Dividing by 3 ,
x² - 2/3x - 8/3 = 0
x² - 2/3x + (2/3 × 1/2)² - (2/3 ×1/2)² - 8/3 = 0
x² - 2/3x + (2/6)²- (2/6)² - 8/3 = 0
x² - 2/3 x + 4/36 - 4/36 - 8/3 = 0
x² - 2/3 x + 4/36 = 4/36 + 8/3
(x - 2/6)² = 4/36 + 8/3
(x - 2/6)² = 25/9
(x - 2/6) = √(25/9)
x - 2/6 = 5/3
x = 5/3 + 2/6
x = 10/6 + 2/6
∴ x = 12/6 = 2
x = 2
