solve by cross multiplication method
2x + 3y = 46
3x + 5y = 74​

2x + 3y = 46 \\ x =  \frac{1}{2} (46 - 3y).........(1) \\  substitute \:  (1) \:  in  \: given\:   second\:   equation\\\frac{3}{2} (46 - 3y) + 5y = 74 \\ 138 -  9 y \times 10y = 74 \times 2 \\ y = 148 - 138 = 10 \\ thus \: y = 10 \\ hence \:  \: x =  \frac{1}{2} (46 - 3 \times 10) = 8 \\ ie \:  \: x \:  =  \: 8
