Step-by-step explanation:

2x - y = 2 -------> (1)

x + 3y = 15 ------> (2)

MULTIPLYING EQUATION (1) WITH 3, WE GET,

6x - 3y = 6 -------> (3)

NOW, ADDING EQUATIONS (2) AND (3), WE GET,

6x - 3y = 6

+

1x + 3y = 15

--------------------------------

7x = 21

--------------------------------

x = 21 / 7 = 3 ---------> (4)

Now, putting value of x from equation (4) in equation (2), we get,

3 + 3y = 15

3y = 12 [ 15 - 3 = 12]

y = 12 / 3

y = 4 ----------> (5)

So, from equation (4) and (5) we get the value of x and y respectively.
