Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables'.

There are two ways to solve a pair of linear equations in two variables:

1) Graphical Method

2) Algebraic Method:

a. Substitution Method

b. Elimination Method

c. Cross-Multiplication Method

Given equations:

x + y = 4 --- (1)

3x - y = 5 --- (2)

To find: Values of x and y

Solution:

Elimination Method is a method to eliminate one variable by equating that coefficient to obtain the value of second variable. This value will help in obtaining the first variable.

Multiplying equation 1 by 3 on both sides, we get,

3x + 3y = 12 --- (3)

3x - y = 5 --- (2)

-    +       -

------------------------------

      4y = 17

        y = 17/4

Put value of y in equation 1, we get,

x + 17/4 = 4

x = 4 - 17/4

x = (16 - 17)/4

x = -1/4

∴ x = -1/4 and y = 17/4 are solutions of given pair of equations.

QUESTION :

Solve by eliminating method...

See the above attachment...

CONCEPT USED :

Linear Equations In 2 Variable..

Solving Linear Equations In 2 Variables By Using the Elimination method.

SOLUTION :

From the above Question, we can obtain the following information...

The two given equations are :

Equation 1 :

X + Y = 4

Equation 2 :

3X - Y = 5

Where, X and Y are two variables .

Steps For Solving Such Equations ..

First we have to arrange the required equations in standard form by grouping like variables and Constants together.

Now arrange the Equation vertically and solve by adding it subtracting...

So, Here,

We need to add the equations.

Adding :

4X = 9

=> X = 9 / 4.

Placing this value of X in Equation 1 :

Y = 4 - 9 / 4 = 5 / 4

Therefore, the value of X = 9 / 4 and the value of. Y = 5 / 4 are the roots or the solution set of the above two equations...

ANSWER :

The value of X = 9 / 4 and the value of. Y = 5 / 4 are the roots or the solution set of the above two equations.
