Step-by-step explanation:

49x+51y=499 --eq(i)

51x+49y=501 --eq(ii)

this is special case

In 1st case we add(+)both equation

=>100x+100y=1000

=> X+Y=10 ( taking 100 common)--eq(iii)

In 2nd case we subtract(-) both equation => -3x+3y= -3

=> X-Y=1 (taking -3common)--eq(iv)

now Add eq (iii) and eq(iv)

we get X=11/2 and Y=9/2
