8x + y = -16 …………(1)
3x - y = 5 ………….(2)

Adding (1) and (2) we get

8x + y = -16
3x - y = 5

11x = -11
X = -1

Substituting This value in (1) we get

8(-1) + y = -16
-8 + y = -16

Y = -8
Therefore
X = -1
Y = -8
