EXPLANATION.

⇒ x + 2y = 8. - - - - - (1).

⇒ x - y = 7. - - - - - (2).

As we know that,

From equation (1) & (2), we get.

Multiply equation (1) by 1.

Multiply equation (2) by 2.

⇒ x + 2y = 8. - - - - - (1) x 1.

⇒ x - y = 7. - - - - - (2) x 2.

We get,

⇒ x + 2y = 8. - - - - - (3).

⇒ 2x - 2y = 14. - - - - - (4).

Adding equation (3) & (4), we get.

⇒ 3x = 22.

⇒ x = 22/3.

Put the value of x = 22/3 in equation (1), we get.

⇒ x + 2y = 8.

⇒ 22/3 + 2y = 8.

⇒ 2y = 8 - 22/3.

⇒ 2y = 24 - 22/3.

⇒ 2y = 2/3.

⇒ y = 1/3.

Values of x = 22/3  and  y = 1/3.

Answer:

x=22/3 and y=1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets solve

  • x+2y=8-----(1)
  • x-y=7-----(2)

Subtracting eq(2) from eq(1)

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow 2y+y=8-7

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow 3y=1

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow y=\dfrac{1}{3}

\rule{200}{4}

  • Putting value of y in eq(2)

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow x-y=7

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow x-\dfrac{1}{3}=7

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow x=7+\dfrac{1}{3}

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow x=\dfrac{21+1}{3}

\\ \tt{:}\longrightarrow x=\dfrac{22}{3}
