Answer:

                       Here you go mate.

Step-by-step explanation:

2y² - 5y - 25 is a quadratic equation and so will have two solutions.

2y² - 5y - 25 = 0

2y² - 10y + 5y - 25 = 0  ( ∵ -5y = - 10y + 5y )

Take the common terms in common :

2y ( y - 5 )  + 5 ( y - 5 ) = 0

Again take common terms in common :

( 2y + 5 )( y - 5 ) = 0

Zero can only be obtained when a number is multiplied by zero and will not be obtained when multiplied with another number.

As 2y + 5 and y - 5 gives zero when multiplied either 2y + 5 or y - 5 is equal to zero.

When 2y + 5 is zero :

                                    2y + 5 = 0

                                    2y = -5

                                     y = -5/2 or -2.5

When y - 5 is zero:

                               y - 5 = 0

                              y = 5

                                          Answer : y = -2.5 or -5
