Hi there !

This is very easy question, we have to multiply both equations by 10 to remove decimals.

Question :-

0.2x + 0.3y = 1.3

0.4x + 0.5y = 2.3

Answer :-

x = 2 and y = 3

Explanation :-

0.2x + 0.3y = 1.3 ---(1)

0.4x + 0.5y = 2.3 ---(2)

From equation (1) we get,

x = 1.3 - 0.3y/0.2 ---(3)

Substituting x = 1.3 - 0.3y/0.2 in equation (2) We get,

0.4x + 0.5y = 2.3

0.4(1.3-0.3y/0.2) - 0.5y = 2.3

2.6 - 0.6 + 0.5y = 2.3

2.6 - 2.3 = 0.1y

0.3 = 0.1y

y = 3

y = 3 ---(4)

Substituting y = 3 in equation (3) We get,

x = 1.3 - 0.3y/0.2

x = 1.3 - 0.3(3)/0.2

x = 1.3 - 0.9/0.2

x = 0.4/0.2

x = 2

Therefore, x = 2 and y = 3

__________________________

Without decimal

0.2x + 0.3y = 1.3 × 10

0.4x + 0.5y = 2.3 × 10

2x + 3y = 13 ---(1)

4x + 5y = 23 ---(2)

From equation (2) We get,

x = 23 - 5y/4 ---(3)

Substituting x = 23 - 5y /4 in equation (1) We get,

2x + 3y = 13

2(23 - 5y/4) + 3y = 13

23 - 5y + 6y = 26

y = 26 - 23

y = 3

Substituting y = 3 in equation (3) We get,

x = 23 - 5y /4

x = 23 - 5(3)/4

x = 23 - 15 /4

x = 8/4

x = 4/2

x = 2
