from eq. 1 ,we get

x=18-y

substitute the value of x in eq. 2, we get

18-y-y=4

-2y=4-18

-2y=-12

y=6

substitute the value of x in eq. 1, we get

x + 6 = 18

x = 18 - 6

x= 12
