Answer:

y= 2 . X=4

Step-by-step explanation:

okay so we have

x-y = 2

we can take the -y to the other side and it becomes positive, we now know what x is ie.

x= 2+ y

now since we have what x is we substitute it into the second formula i.e

3(2+ y) +2y = 16

expand brackets

6+ 3y + 2y = 16

collect liked terms

6+ 5y = 16

take the 6 to the other side, sign changes

5y = 16-6

5y = 10

since we on;y want to know what y  is and not 5y we divide both sides by 5 ie

5y/5 = 10/5

now y= 2

since we now know what y is we take its value and substitute it into the formula ie

x - (2) = 2

x - 2 = 2

take the -2 to the other side

x= 2+2

x=4
