from equation (i) ,

y = 24-4X

put this value in equation (ii)

3x - 5(24-4x) = 18

=> 3x - 120 + 20x = 18

=> 23x = 138

=> x = 6

put x value in equation (i)

4×6 + y = 24

=> y = 24-24 =0

so, x=6, y=0
