Then, 2u + 3v = 2 ... (i) and   4u - 9v = -1 ... (ii)

From (i),

            u = (2-3v)/2

Substituting this value of u in (ii). we get,

4*(2-3v)/2 -9v = -1

2*(2-3v) - 9v   = -1

4 - 6v - 9v       = -1

4 - 15v             = -1

-15v                 = -1 - 4

-15v                 = -5

v                      = -5/ -15

v                      = 1/3

and u = (2-3v)/2 = (2-1)/2 = 1/2

Now, u = 1/root(x) = 1/2  and v = 1/root(y) = 1/3

Therefore, x = 4 and y = 9.
