ANSWER:----------

Formula,  x  , the solution for   Ax2+Bx+C  = 0  , where  A, B  and C  are numbers, often called coefficients, is given by :

- B  ±  √ B2-4AC

  x =   ————————

                      2A

  In our case,  A   =     1

                      B   =   12

                      C   =   27

Accordingly,  B2  -  4AC   =

                     144 - 108 =

                     36

Applying the quadratic formula :

               12 ± √ 36

   x  =    —————

                    2

Can  √ 36 be simplified ?

Yes!   The prime factorization of  36   is

   2•2•3•3

To be able to remove something from under the radical, there have to be  2  instances of it (because we are taking a square i.e. secondroot).

√ 36   =  √ 2•2•3•3   =2•3•√ 1   =

                ±  6 • √ 1   =

                ±  6

So now we are looking at:

           x  =  ( 12 ± 6) / 2

Two real solutions:

x =(12+√36)/2=6+3= 9.000

or:

x =(12-√36)/2=6-3= 3.000

Two solutions were found : x = 9 x = 3

hope it helps:------
