(b) 9 cm, 17 cm, 25 cm is the correct set of measures of a triangle.

This is correct, because, the sum of the length of two smaller sides of a triangle must be greater than the longest side.

If a, b and c are the legths of sides of a triangle in same unit, and c>b>a or c>a>b, then (a + b)>c . It is always true.

in case of (a), (8 + 4)<20 which does not make a triangle. But, in (b) (9+17)>25, which makes a triangle.
