Use the quadratic formula.

p =  \frac{ - b +  \sqrt{ {b }^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}

Once in standard form, identify a,b and c from the original equation and plug them into the quadratic formula.

 {3p}^{2}  + 7p + 1 = 0

a = 3

b = 7

c = 1

p =  \frac{ - 7 +  \sqrt{ {7}^{2}  - 4.3.1} }{2.3}

hope this will help you...
