Given:

  • \frac{1}{(x-2)}  = \frac{8}{(2x-5)}

To Find:

  • The value of x.

Solution:

The given equation is \frac{1}{(x-2)}  = \frac{8}{(2x-5)}  → (equation 1)

On cross-multiplying equation 1 we get,

⇒ 2x-5 = 8(x-2)

⇒ 2x-5 = 8x - 16 → (equation 2)

Rearranging equation 2 according to their like terms.

⇒ 2x-8x = -16+5

⇒ -4x = -11 ( cancelling the '-' sign on both sides)

⇒ 4x = 11

⇒ x = 11/4

∴ The value of x is 11/4
