Answer: x = y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

\sf{Elimination\:method:}

In this method, we make the coefficients of any one variable equal, and then subtract both the equations, in order to find the value of the variables.

Equation given to us:

  • 2x - y = 2

  • 3y - 4x + 2 = 0

We'll start with simplifying the second equation:

3y - 4x + 2 = 0

=> 3y - 4x = (-2)

Taking the minus(-) sign common, and then cancelling it out:

=> 4x - 3y = 2 ...(1)

The first equation given to us was:

=> 2x - y = 2

Now, we will make the coefficient of the variable x same. In order to do so, we will multiply the above equation with 2:

=> 2(2x - y) = 2(2)

=> 4x - 2y = 4 ...(2)

We can subtract both the formed equations now.

(1) - (2):

=> 4x - 3y - ( 4x - 2y ) = 2 - 4

=> 4x - 3y - 4x + 2y = (-2)

=> -y = (-2)

=> y = 2

Now, we have y as 2; we can get the value of x as:

4x - 3y = 2

=> 4x - 6 = 2

=> 4x = 8

=> x = 2

Thus, the values are:

x = 2

y = 2
