let 1÷(x-1)=u and 1÷(y-2)=v
therefore both equations now will be:-
5u + 1v = 2
6u - 3v = 1
now solve these two equations by elimination, substitution pr cross multiplication as per your wish.
Then substitute value of u in 1÷(x-1) = u and v in 1÷(y-2) = v and then find value of a and y respectively.
