Step-by-step explanation:

Let a/x be v and b/y be w.

2v+3w+1=0...(1)

3v-w-4=0...(2)

Multiply (2) by 3 and add(1) we get

2v+3w+1+3(3v-w-4)=0 =>2v+3w+1+9v-3w-12

=0 =>11v-11=0=>v=1.

Substitute v=1 in (1) equation =>2(1)+3w+1=0=>3w+3=0=>w= -1. So

a/x=1=>x=a and b/y= -1 =>y= -b. So the solutions of x and y are a and -b respectively.

Hope it helps you.
