Given:

4x - 15y = 65

3x + 2y = 9

To find:

Value of x and y = ?

Solution:

4x - 15y = 65 ---(1)

3x + 2y = 9 ---(2)

From (2)

3x = 9 - 2y

 \\  \\ x =  \dfrac{9 - 2y}{3}  \\  \\ substituting \:  \: value \: of \: x \: in \: \\  equation \: (1) \\  \\ 4 \times   \dfrac{9 - 2y}{3}  - 15y = 65

 \\  \\  \dfrac{36 - 8y}{3}  - 15y = 65 \\  \\  \dfrac{36 - 8y - 45y}{3} = 65 \\  \\ 36 - 8y - 45y = 65  \times 3\\  \\  36 - 8y  - 45y = 195 \\  \\

 \\  \\ 36 - 53y = 195 \\  \\  - 53y = 195 - 36 \\  \\  - 53y = 159 \\  \\ y =  \dfrac{159}{ - 53}  \\  \\ y =  - 3

Substituting value of y in equation (2)

3x + 2y = 9

3x + 2(-3) = 9

3x - 6 = 9

3x = 9 + 6

3x = 15

 \\  \\ x =  \dfrac{15}{3}  \\  \\ x = 5

Answer:

Thus, value of x = 5 and y = -3

Verification:

If we substitute value of x and y and if it equals to given number then our answer is correct

3x + 2y = 9

3 × (5) + 2 × (-3) = 9

15 - 6 = 9

9 = 9

LHS = RHS
