Answer

\sqrt{2x + 9} + x = 13

\sqrt{2x +9} = 13 - x

on squaring both sides we get,

⇒(\sqrt{2x+9})² = (13 - x)²

⇒2x + 9 = x² + 169 - 26x

⇒x² - 28x + 169- 9 = 0

⇒x² - 20x - 8x +160 = 0

⇒x(x - 20) - 8(x - 20) = 0

⇒(x-20)(x-8)=0

⇒x-20=0  or  x-8=0

⇒x = 20 or x = 8

hope it helps
