We have:

\dfrac{x+1}{2x+3} =\dfrac{3}{8}

We have to find, the value of x.

Solution:

\dfrac{x+1}{2x+3} =\dfrac{3}{8}

By cross-multiplication, we get

8(x + 1) = 3(2x + 3)

⇒ 8x + 8 = 6x + 9

⇒ 8x - 6x = 9 - 8

⇒ 2x = 1

Dividing both sides by 2, we get

\dfrac{2x }{2}= \dfrac{1}{2}

⇒ x = \dfrac{1}{2}

x = \dfrac{1}{2}

Thus, the value of x is "equal to \dfrac{1}{2}".

Given :     (x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

To Find : Solve for x

Solution:

(x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

Cross multiply

=> (x + 1) 8  = (2x + 3) 3

Apply distributive property

=> 8x + 8  = 6x  + 9

Subtract 8 from both sides

=> 8x + 8 - 8 = 6x + 9 - 8

=> 8x = 6x + 1

Subtract 6x from both sides

=> 8x - 6x = 6x + 1 - 6x

=> 2x = 1

Divide both sides by 2

=> 2x/2 = 1/2

=> x = 1/2

Verification :

(x + 1)/(2x + 3)  = 3/8

LHS = (1/2 + 1)/(2(1/2)+ 3)

= (3/2)/( 4)

= 3/8

= RHS
