1) Subtract the 2nd row from the 1st row.

2y=8

2y=8

2) Solve for y in the above equation.

y=4

y=4

3) Substitute y=4y into any of the two equations above

Let's pick the first equation 2x+y=6

2x+4=6

4) Solve for x in the above equation.

x=1

Therefore,

x=1

y=4
