SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Solve graphically the equation

2x - y + 1 = 0 , x - 2y + 8 = 0

EVALUATION

Here the given system of equations are

2x - y + 1 = 0 - - - - - - (1)

x - 2y + 8 = 0 - - - - - - (2)

We plot the above equations of the lines in the graph paper

Red line represents the line 2x - y + 1 = 0

Green line represents the line x - 2y + 8 = 0

We see from the graph that two lines intersect at the point (2,5)

We know that for a given system of equations the solution is point of intersection of the lines

Abscissa of the point of intersection = 2

Ordinate of the point of intersection = 5

Hence the required solution is x = 2 , y = 5
