Given :-

  • If B gives 10 of his oranges to A, then A will have twice the number of oranges left with B.
  • If A gives 10 of his oranges to B, then B will have the same number of oranges left with A.

To Find :-

  • The number of oranges A & B has.

Solution :-

Suppose A has x oranges and B has y oranges.

According to the given conditions, we have,

⇒ x + 10 = 2(y - 10)

⇒ x - 2y = -30.........( 1 )

Also,

⇒ y + 10 = x - 10

⇒ x - y = 20............( 2 )

Subtracting equation ( 2 ) from equation ( 1 ), we get,

⇒ -y = -50

y = 50

Substituting value of y in equation ( 1 ), we get,

⇒ x - 2 × 50 = -30

⇒ x - 100 = -30

⇒ x = 100 - 30

x = 70

Hence,

  • The number of oranges with A = 70
  • The number of oranges with B = 50
