let one part of the no. be x
so second part will be 140-x
you can take any one of these as the larger part. let us suppose it is x
so,
1/5 x = 1/8 (140-x) +15
1/5x = 140/8 - 1/8x + 15
1/5x +1/8x = 140/8 +15
13/40x = 260/8
x = 260/8 into 40/13  = 100
so one part is 100 and other is 40.

Solution:-
Let the larger part be x and the smaller part be (140 - x).
So, according to the question.
x/5 = (140 - x)/8 + 15
Taking L.C.M. of it, we get
x/5 = (120 + 140 - x)/8
8x = 600 + 700 - 5x
8x - 5x = 1300
13x = 1300
x = 100
So, the larger part is 100 and the smaller part is 140 - 100 = 40
