x+y=14 - eq.(i)

x-y=4 - eq. (ii)

Now frm eq (ii) ,

x-y=4

we get , y = x-4

Substituting y = x-4 in eq. (i),

x + (x-4) = 14

=> x+x-4 =14

=> 2x = 14+4

=> 2x = 18

=> x= 18/2

=> x=9

Substituting x= 9 in eq. (ii),

9-y =4

=> y = 9-4

=> y= 5

Thus, x=9 and y=5.

hope it helps..
