Question :

  • \sf{{x}^{2} + 9x + 18}

  • \sf{{x}^{2} - 10x + 9}

  • \sf{{y}^{2} + 24y + 144}

  • \sf{{5y}^{2} + 5y - 10}

  • \sf{{p}^{2} - 2p - 35}

  • \sf{{p}^{2} - 7p - 44}

Answer :

(in the attachment)

Steps followed :

  1. In the given problems we have used the formula of split the middle term to factorise them
  2. In factorization we have simply used a theorem which says P × Q gives the constant term and P + Q gives the middle term.
  3. Then the next step is to find out the factors of the constant term.
  4. Only the factor pair which when added or subtracted gives the middle term is to be taken.
  5. Then taking a single number common in each part of the the equation we have to factorise.
  6. Note : Like in Problem number (4) if we have a coefficient value ; we need to multiply the coefficient to the constant term. Then take the obtained number as the constant term.
