(i) 3×10⁸m/s

(ii) 2.25×10⁸m/s

Explanation:

  • refractive index of glass with respect to vacuum = 3/2 - Statement 1
  • refractive index of water with respect to vacuum = 4/3 - Statement 2
  • speed of light in glass = 2 × 10⁸ m/s
  • let speed of light in vacuum = c ( speed of light in vacuum is denoted by letter "c" )
  • let speed of light in water =
  • Refractive index (n) = speed of light in vacuum (c) / speed if light in medium (v)
  • n = c/v
  • From statement 1: 3/2 = c/2×10⁸

(3× 2×10⁸)/ 2 = c

c = 3× 10⁸ m/s

  • Now we found, speed of light in vacuum = 3×10⁸ m/s
  • From statement 2: 4/3 = (3×10⁸) /

= (3×10⁸×3) / 4

= 2.25 × 10⁸ m/s

Hope it helps you
