Area of shaded portion =

(12 \times 12) - ( \frac{\pi {r}^{2} }{4} )  \\ ......area \: of \: quadrant \:  =  \frac{1}{4} area \: of \: circle \\  \\ (144) - ( \frac{\pi(12 \times 12)}{4} ) \\  \\ 144  - ( \frac{ \frac{22}{7} \times 12 \times 12 }{4} ) \\  \\ 144 - ( \frac{ \frac{22}{7} \times 144 }{4} ) \\  \\ 144 - 113 \\  \\  = 31 {cm}^{2}
