Given :-

A balloon is connected to a meteorological ground station by a cable of length 215 m inclined at 60° to the horizontal.

To Find :-

Height of balloon

Solution :-

Let height of balloon = AB = x m

Now,

In ΔABC

{\boxed{\sf sin\theta=\dfrac{AB}{AC}}}

\sf\implies \sin(60^{\circ})=\dfrac{x}{215}

We know that

  • sin(60°) = √3/2

\sf\implies \dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2}=\dfrac{x}{215}

\sf\implies 215\times\sqrt{3}=2\times x

\sf\implies 215\sqrt{3}=2x

\sf\implies \dfrac{215\sqrt{3}}{2}=x

\sf\implies 107.5\sqrt{3}=x

Therefore,

Height of balloon from the ground is 107.5√3 m
