In algebra more specifically in any polynomial, like terms are the terms with the same variables and same net total power or degree.

a) 7x - 3x + 8

  • Like terms: 7x , -3x because they have the same variable x and the degree of the terms is equal i.e. 1

b) a + b + 2a - c

  • Like terms: a , 2a because they have the same variable a and the degree is same for both.

c) 2xy - 5xz + 4yz - yz

  • Like terms: 4yz , -yz because they are having same variables y and z. Also the total degree will be 2 for both. (Degree of y and z is 1 each).

Answer:

 \huge \fbox {Question}

Write like terms of given polynomial

 \huge \fbox {Answer}

1. \: 7x - 3x + 8

Like terms = In the given polynomial the like terms are 7x and 3x .

Reason - Since, they have same variable as x . And also the degree is 1.

2.a + b \:  + 2a - c

Like terms = In the given polynomial a and 2a are like terms.

Reason - The variable are same 'a' . And the degree is 1.

 2xy - 5xz + 4yz - yz

Like terms = In the given polynomial 4yz and yz are like terms

Reason - Since, they are having same variables y and z. And the degree will be same in both

 \huge \sf {Polynomial}

Polynomials are the algebraic expressions which consist of variables and coefficients.

 \huge \sf {Variable}

Variable are those words that have indefinite value . Example - x , y

 \huge \sf {Constant}
