From (2), we have

⇒ y = x + 1 ....................... (3)

Now,

Substitute value of y in (1),

⇒ 3x - 5(x + 1) = -1

⇒ -2x - 5 = -1

⇒ -2x = 4

⇒ x = 4/-2

⇒ x = -2

Now,

Substitute the value of x in (3),

⇒ y = x + 1

⇒ y = - 2 + 1

⇒ y = - 1

Therefore,

x = -2 and y = -1
