given ∠APQ = 40°

given ∠PRD = 118°

let ∠PRQ = z

so, ∠PRD + ∠PRQ = 180°  ( linear pair)

     118° + z = 180°

     z = 62°

and, ∠APQ = x = 40°  (alternate interior angles)

now, x + y + z = 180°  (sum of angles in a triangle)

       40° + y + 62° = 180°

       102° + y = 180°

       y = 180° - 102°

       y = 78°

hence, x = 40°

          y = 78°
