For any quadratic expression to posses real roots, its discriminant must be greater than or equals to zero.

D ≥ 0 where D = b² - 4ac for any quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0.

So, finding D for the given equation

D = (-5)² - 4(1)(16)

= 25 - 64

= (-39)

So, here D < 0, means there exists no real roots for the given quadratic equuation

In other words, no value of x satisfies the given equation.
