Two main causes of pollution of river ganga are:
All wastes is thrown in the river
Drainage water should not be thrown in the river.
Polluted water harms because water from these rivers are sent to the many neighbouring areas as for drinking supply
this water is used by farmers for the irrigation of crops.

Bathing and washing clothes in it
It can harm heath of people as
If untreated sewage waste has been introduced in it and consumed by people then it can cause diseases like cholera
