given

x + y = 3

xy =2

to find => x⁴ + y ⁴ = ?

=> (x +y )² = x² + y ² + 2xy

=> 3 ² => x² + y² + 2 * 2

x ² + y² = 9 - 4

x² + y² = 5

now ,

squaring both side we get

=> (x² + y² ) ² = x ⁴ + y⁴ + 2 x² y² .

=> 5 ² = x⁴ + y⁴ + 2 * ( 2²)

25 - 2* 4= x⁴ + y⁴

=> x⁴ + y⁴ = 25 - 8

x⁴ + y⁴ = 17 .
