Question : Find the distance between mid-point of line segment AB with A (2, - 7), B (9, - 2) and the point C (5, - 6).

Solution :

The mid-point of AB is

((2 + 9)/2, (- 7 - 2)/2)

i.e., (11/2, - 9/2)

the distance between the points (11/2, - 9/2) and C (5, - 6) is

= √{(11/2 - 5)² + (- 9/2 + 6)²} units

= √[{(11 - 10)/2}² + {(- 9 + 12)/2}²] units

= √{(1/2)² + (3/2)²} units

= √(1/4 + 9/4) units

= √(10/4) units

= (√10)/2 units (Ans.)
