( x - 1 ) - ( x - 1 )² + a ( x - 1 )

= ( x - 1 ) ( 1 - ( x - 1 ) + a )

= ( x - 1 ) ( 1 - x + 1 + a )

= ( x - 1 ) ( 2 + a - x )
