Method - 1:

Given R = 20%.

% decrease in consumption = [(R/100 + R) * 100]%

⇒ [20/120 * 100]%

⇒ [100/6]%

⇒ 16.67%.

Method - 2:

⇒ Let the intial price is 100.

Given that its price is increased by 20% = 120.

Now,

⇒ (Original price/Increased price) * 100

⇒ (100/120) * 100

⇒ 83.33


Therefore, % reduce in consumption:

⇒ 100 - 83.33

⇒ 16.67.
