let 1/x+y=u and 1/x-y be v

so 10u+2v=4

2(5u+v)=4

5u+v=2. _(1)

15u-5v =-2 _(2)

ANSWER:

Let 1/x+y be u

Let 1/x-y be v

Therefore,

10u + 2v = 4 .... eq 1

Multiply whole by 5

50u + 10v = 20

15u - 5v = -2 .... eq 2

Multiply whole by 2

30u - 10v = -4

50u + 10v=20 ( elimination method)

30u -10v =-4

________________

80u = 16

U = 0.2

Putting value of u in eq2

15 * 0.2 - 5v = -2

-5v = -2 -3

-5v = -5

V = 1

Therefore,

1/x+y = u. 1/x-y = v

X+y = 5 X-y = 1

X= 1+y

Putting value of x

X+y = 5

1+ y +y = 5

2y = 5-1

Y= 2

Putting value of y in other eq

X = 1+y

X= 3

Therefore,

X=3

Y=2
