( x -1)² - 5(x-1) -6 = 0

Let ( x-1 ) = y

So, the equation form is

y² -5y -6 = 0

D = b²-4ac

= (5)² -4×1×(-6)

= 25 +24

= 49

y = (-b±√D)/2a

y =( -(-5)±√49)/2

y = (5±7)/2

y = (5+7)/2

y = 12/2

y = 6

* y = (5-7)/2

y = -2/2
y = -1

Now putting x-1 = y

x-1=6

x=6+1

x=7

x-1=y

x=(-1+1)

x=0

Step-by-step explanation:

  • (x-1)^2-5(x-1)-6=0 (x-1)=y y^2-5y-6=0 d=b^2-4ac =5^2-4×1×-6 =25+24 =49 y=(-b±root D )/2a y=(-(-5)±root 49)/2 y=5±7/2 y=6 or y-1 now put x-1=y x=6+1=7 or x-1=y =x=(-1+1)=0
