The refractive index of the prism will be √2

Explanation:

From the figure we can see that the ray strikes the face AC at an angle of incidence of 45°

As we can see the ray does not undergo refraction at the face AC but is reflected back.

Hence the value of the critical angle is 45°

Therefore,

sin C = sin 45 = 1/√2

we know that,

μ = 1/sin C

=> μ = 1/sin45 = √2

Hence the refractive index of the prism will be √2
