QuestioN :

Calculate the pressure exerted by a cubical box placed over the surface.

m = 50 kg, side length = 5 cm

Solution :

Side of cube = 5 cm = 0.05 m

Now, use formula for Area of Square

\longrightarrow \sf{Area \: = \: Side^2} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Area \: = \: 0.05^2} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Area \: = \: 0.0025} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Area \: = \: 0.0025} \\ \\ \underline{\underline{\sf{Area \: of \: cubical \: box \: is \: 0.0025 \: m^2}}}

Now, use formula for Pressure :

\longrightarrow \sf{Pressure \: = \: \dfrac{Force}{Area}} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Pressure \: = \: \dfrac{mg}{Area}} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Pressure \: = \: \dfrac{50 \: \times \: 10}{0.0025}} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Pressure \: = \: \dfrac{500}{0.0025}} \\ \\ \longrightarrow \sf{Pressure \: = \: 200,000} \\ \\ \underline{\underline{\sf{Pressure \: exerted \: by \: box \: is \:  200,000 \: Pascal}}}

Answer

  • Mass = 50 kg
  • Length = 5 cm = 0.05 m

We need to find the pressure exerted by cubical block.

Finding the total surface area of the base of the cube:-

Formula : side²

Hence, Area = 0.05²

Area = 0.0025

Formula for Pressure : Force/Area

We also know that, Force = mass*gravitational force

Pressure = 50*10/0.0025

Pressure = 500/0.0025

Pressure = 5000000/25

Pressure = 1000000/5

Pressure = 200,000

Pressure = 200,000 Pa
