Solve question number 16 with full procedure.

Q16. A wall of diameter 140cm has a stone parapet around it. If the length of the outer edge of the parapet is 616cm, find the width of the parapet. ​

Given diameter =140 cm.

Then the radius will be d/2 =70 cm.

Let the width of the parapet be x cm.

Clearly, the outer edge of the parapet forms of a circle of radius R=(x+70)cm.

∴ Length of the outer edge of parapet =616cm.

2πR=616 ........ Perimeter of circle

⇒ 2× 22/7 ×(x+70)=616

⇒ x+70= 616×7/22 × 1/2

⇒ x+70=98

⇒ x=98-70 = 18 cm
