3x - 5y = 16. ......equation 1
x - 3y = 8 ....equation 2
on multiplying equation 2 by 3
3x - 9y = 24 ....equation 3
on subtracting equation 1 and 3
3x -5y =16
3x - 9y =24
- - = -
___________
4y = -8
y = -2
Now put the value of y in equation 2
x - 3y = 8
x = 8 + 3× -2
x = 2
So ,,,
x = 2
y =-2
hope it helps

Answer:

3x− 5y =16 .....(I)

x − 3y = 8 .....(II)

Multiply (II) with 3

3x−9y=24 .....(III)

(I) − (III)

4y=−8y=−2

Putting the value of y in (II)

x=2
