Answer:

"4 times a certain number"  is rewritten algebraically as 4x

"is as much less than 60" is rewritten that 60 - 4x  

"7 times the number" is rewritten as 7x

"is greater than 61" is rewritten as 7x-61

Since the two terms are the same (the second "as"), the two terms can be set equal to one another:

60 - 4x = 7x -61

121 = 11x

x = 11  {Answer}
